Place these images into a folder that is easy to find. Name the folder ‘Writer Website Images’ or something similar.

Favicon

Create an image using your initials. Either type your initials into a document and take a square-shaped screenshot of them, or go to favicon.io to generate a favicon from text.

The favicon will appear in the browser’s address bar and next to the page's name in a list of bookmarks.

Google ‘favicon generator’ to find a website that will help you turn any image into a favicon.

Format:
48 x 48 pixels (dimensions)
100KB maximum file size
PNG or ICO file type

Background image (optional)

This image will represent your blog. It can be a photo of something related to your genre, one of your book covers, an author photo, or just something that gives the right vibe.

Note: This image will be cropped to suit different screens, so don’t worry if it appears cropped on your website.

Note: Unsplash has an excellent selection of professional photos, and you can search under keywords. If you need to reduce the file size, Google ‘online image resize’ to find a website that will help you change your file’s size.

Preferably 1800 x 1600 pixels (dimensions)

Author photograph

Use a recent photo of yourself. If you can afford it, get a professional to photograph you. Otherwise, ask a friend or family member to take a photo. Don’t just use a piece of a photo with you in it (from your sister’s wedding or that sun holiday). See Mary Robinette Kowal’s post on the author photo.
